No one left out of growth.
GCIG's main work is supporting persons with disabilities, alongside communities, learners, women, youth, children and the elderly across Kenya. We open doors to education, opportunity and dignity for the people who need it most.
Why we exist
Too many people in our communities are locked out of education, healthcare and opportunity because of where they were born, a disability, or simple lack of support. GCIG exists to change that.
We are the Global Community Initiative for Growth, a non-governmental organization built by Kenyans, for Kenyan communities. Our constitution commits us to three things above everything else.
Support the disadvantaged
Practical support for persons with disabilities, communities, women, youth, children, the elderly and other disadvantaged groups.
Empower young people
Better opportunities for education, training, healthcare and socio-economic projects so young people can build better lives.
Mentor students
Motivation and mentorship programmes for students in the communities we serve.
Our programme areas
Six areas of work, all drawn from the objects in our constitution.
Disability inclusion
Our main area of work. Assistive devices and technologies for people with disabilities, education support for learners with disabilities and special needs, and help accessing training and work.
Education support
Academic and financial support for learners, students and trainees from disadvantaged backgrounds, school motivation events, and helping build and equip local educational institutions.
Children and the elderly
Food, clothing and medical care for orphaned children caring for their families and for needy elderly persons, plus support for children's homes and family tracing for vulnerable children.
Women and youth empowerment
Skills training for women and young people, and support to start income generating activities that put money in their pockets.
Health, water and environment
Work on water, sanitation and health, action on climate change, and awareness campaigns on drug and substance abuse with support for those affected.
Rights and governance
Civic education, gender equality, safeguarding human rights, tackling gender-based violence, and closing the digital divide in our communities.

Our leadership
GCIG is governed by a Board of Directors elected by the members, with day-to-day work run by a secretariat.
Prof Jane Catherine Ngila
Professor Ngila chairs the Board and has served as Acting Executive Director of the African Academy of Sciences.
Built to be trusted
Our constitution locks in the rules that keep GCIG honest and accountable.
Non-profit by law
No income or property of the organization can be paid or transferred to any member, directly or indirectly. Everything goes to the work.
Independent audit every year
A registered auditor is appointed at each annual general meeting and reports directly to the members. No board member or officer can be the auditor.
Elected, term-limited leadership
Officials are elected every three years and can serve at most two terms. After six years they must step aside before standing again.
Open books
Books of account and the register of members are open to inspection by any member. If GCIG is ever wound up, remaining assets go to another non-profit with similar goals, never to members.
